The Little Dreamers Room

Age Range -16 to 28 Months

The Little Dreamers room is a bright, open plan, interactive and stimulating environment, designed for babies aged 16 months to 28 months.
We can have up to 9 children in this room, so it is a nice, fun and busy room and a great place for the little ones to develop their early social and communicative skills.
The room has been set up with the specific developmental needs of this age group in mind. Resources are placed at the children’s level, so they are able to access them freely and begin to make their own choices about what to explore and learn.
There is a sensory area with lots of different resources, a construction area so they can begin to develop fine motor and problem-solving skills, a lovely rainbow apparatus for physical development, and for more relaxed play, a quiet area.
The room is spacious and open plan, so we as staff can easily access everything and the little ones are visible to us at all times.
The children have their mealtimes and snack times in here, we also have changing facilities within the room.
After lunch we turn the room into a sleep area, all the children have their own mats and sheets, and they lay down and have a nice quiet time in here where they can go to sleep.

The Little Makers Room

Age Range - 2 to 3 Years

The Little Makers room has been created for children aged 2 to 3 years. In this room we can have up to 12 children. This room has been designed to really encourage the little ones to become more independent, and to boost their individual confidence and creativity. The room is bright, spacious and open plan, so the children can explore, share, learn and interact with one another, all under the careful supervision of our staff who are able to see them at all times. The children have lots to explore, and as with the rest of the nursery, the educational resources in this room have been chosen specifically with this age group’s developmental needs in mind. At this age the children are really beginning to learn to share and communicate, developing essential social skills that will carry them through nursery and beyond. We have a fantastic role play area where the little ones can dress up, act out stories and spark their imaginations. We also love to get stuck in with messy play, we get the foam out, the water, the sand, it’s great fun and the little ones love exploring these resources. We take the children on twice daily walks, we explore the local area, which has a lovely community feel, the local shops know us and wave to the children. We do 2 year checks in this room, just to make sure the children are where they should be, and to see if there’s any extra support we can put in place to help them. We work alongside parents to achieve this.

The Little Storytellers Room

Age Range - 3 to 5 Years

The Little Storytellers room is for children aged 3 to 5 years old. We can have up to 24 children in this room. Your little one is now a pre-schooler, and absolutely fascinated by the world around them. Our really lovely, big and bright room provides the perfect environment for them to develop individually towards the next stage of their learning… “Big School!” This room is where your child will start to make firm friends, understand rules and boundaries, and further develop the cognitive, physical, fine motor and communicative skills they learned in their previous years at THTJB. This is such a lovely large open plan space, a really big room just packed full of a wide range of educational resources to suit this age group. We focus on encouraging the children’s independence skills and allowing them to make their own choices… All geared towards getting them ready for “Big school”! We have a lovely sensory area, a quiet area for the little ones to have some downtime if they choose, we have an extensive roleplay area, construction area, messy play… You name it, it’s just so much fun in here and the children are so engaged with all the activities on offer! The children have their snacks and mealtimes in here, and at mealtimes we encourage those independent and self-help skills, ready for the little ones to go on to school. The Little Storytellers are able to choose a book from our library area, take them home for a week and share the story with their families. We also offer home learning for the children so they can take some learning to complete at home, again, all practice for when they go to school. To start each day we do “busy fingers” which is a great activity to get their little fingers warmed up, and really helps develop dexterity, writing skills and mark making skills.

The Garden Room

Bringing the Outdoors Indoor

At THTJB nursery Hemel Hempstead we are lucky to have access to lots of green outdoor space, just a minute away from the setting. But for when the good old British weather isn’t looking so good, we have created an indoor garden room! This room is bright, spacious, open plan and really engaging for the little ones. There are a variety of quality resources which have been chosen to support physical development for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. Physical activity is a vital part of childrens’ all-round development. Within this room we provide a stimulating and safe environment for the growth of core strength and co-ordination, gross motor skills, and fine motor skills. The garden room is a great space for the little ones to explore and play, providing various opportunities to interact with apparatus, puzzles, ride-on toys, and sensory equipment. We also hold music sessions in this room. All of the above really supports the individual progress of each child, under the watchful eye of our staff, who provide support and feedback to boost the little ones’ confidence.
